Nowadays, many countries's schools hold very long holidays, especially summer holiday, some of them is two months or more, which really catchs people's eyes on whether should these schools or students need such long holidays. Since I'm not either the officer working in state education department, or not the stuff working in school, I may not know much about this question, but I'm willing to give some opinions even they are guessed by me.
First of all, the value of long school holidays I think is that the schools need restore, the facilities for example like desks, chairs, blackboards, walls, playgrounds, with a semester's torture by students, they need to be repaired or renewed, but considering some measures may be harmful for students' health, like repainted, it is essential to reserve a relatively long period to let them dry and the odour go.
Another significant value I think is that students need to release pressure from study, it is said that suiside students become more and more these years, and also the number of students who are diagnosed with depression is increasing, maybe the schools want students' mental condition to get worse, or maybe they don't want to risk safety issues of students.
And there are also some people who oppose long school holidays, and I can only assume that they are students' parents or relatives, because except them, who will in favour of shorter school holidays? Most of them may be wage earners and don't have enough time to take care of their kids, so if schools can help, that's better.
In conclusion, people who in different crowd may hold different opinions, but I think there is one point we may neglect, the power who decide whether the school holidays should be long or short is either the schools side or parents side, no one would ask students opinion, maybe in the future, we can let our chidren to decide if they want to learn more or rest more.
